IMO 2020 - new regulation for bunker oils
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) reduces the global limit for sulfur in bunker oils from the current 3.5% to 0.5%. Thus, refineries can no longer sell their unrefined residues as bunker oil or marine fuel. Thus, the production of quality bitumen for specialized refineries becomes attractive: The investment in a Biturox® plant has the lowest CAPEX for the economic utilization of heavy residues.
