A DIFFERENT KIND OF PLANT ENGINEERING - WATCH THE MAKING-OF OF OUR LEGO BITUROX PLANT ON YOUTUBE

  • The plant engineering and revamp specialists Pörner and EDL present their more than 50 years of plant engineering and technology expertise at ACHEMA and show examples of how the green shift can be successful.
  • Power-to-X and Hydrogen: EDL talks about the production of PtL-SAF on an industrial scale and presents the HyKero project within the Leipzig joint project LHyVE.
  • Sustainable Plant Engineering: The torrefaction of biomass through pyrolysis to synthesis gas combined with the production of valuable bio-silicates from rice hulls will be presented as a pioneering example of a green process chain.
  • Smart engineering: Pörner explains how plant revamps can increase productivity, efficiency and sustainability, and how even small changes can have a big impact.
  • Anlagenbau 4.0: Pörner presents its proprietary solution, the Pörner Integrator, for the optimization of detailed planning - from component specification to the construction site.
  • A special highlight for visitors at booth E13 in hall 9.0 is the true-to-scale LEGO model of a Biturox® bitumen plant.

Under the slogan "Embrace the Power of Change - Let's engineer game-changing ideas", the Austrian engineering company for process plant engineering Pörner, together with its German subsidiary EDL, will again present its wide range of services at ACHEMA. Pörner Group will present its 50 years of experience in the field of plant engineering and revamp as well as its technological competence in hall 9.0 and in four lectures. With ‘creative intelligence’ and experience, Pörner supports the energy sector as well as the refinery and chemical industry in tackling the energy transition and significantly improving their carbon footprint.

Power-to-X and biomass-to-X solutions

Hydrogen and syngas are needed across all industries for sustainable production. The production of fuels and basic chemicals using renewable energies requires new approaches. Dr. Michael Haid, CEO of EDL, and Jan Schwartze, Head of Process & Technology Department of EDL, will give a presentation on "Production of PtL kerosene (eSAF) on an industrial scale in the context of a closed regional hydrogen value chain"on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 15:30. The joint project LHyVE (Leipzig Hydrogen Value chain for Europe) is dedicated to creating a closed hydrogen value chain in the Leipzig region. EDL's HyKero project, which is to be built south of Leipzig in the ValuePark Böhlen, is a central part of this chain. The plant, named after the HyKero technology developed by EDL, will produce 50,000 tons of PtL-SAF per year when fully operational, making it the world's largest industrial-scale plant for production of sustainable PtL-SAF. Gerhard Bacher, CEO of Pörner Germany, will also give an important example in the field of innovative sustainable technologies combined with proven methods in a presentation titled "The pioneering example of a green process chain from torrefaction of biomass via pyrolysis to syngas combined with the production of valuable bio-silicates from rice hulls" on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 16:30. The process enables the simultaneous production of energy, synthesis gas and a sought-after raw material for the silicate industry, bio-silicate, from a biological waste material - rice hulls. By converting rice hulls using Pörner's patented bio-silicate process, the CO2 footprint can be reduced by up to 70 percent compared to conventional high-temperature production methods.

Smart Engineering with Anlagenbau 4.0

In addition to the use of future-oriented technologies, modern equipment components and automation systems, as well as the intelligent use of existing structures, the (re)design of plants also requires cost-effective and rapid implementation. However, the software products available on the market have gaps in the workflow, which is why Pörner has developed the Pörner Integrator, a tool for detailed planning of process plants by systematically integrating data of all specialist departments. The tool will be presented to the public by Christian Steinkellner and Roman Schreiner, both Senior Piping Engineers at Pörner in Vienna, as part of the specialist lecture "Anlagenbau 4.0: Optimization of detailed planning through digital integration - The digital path from component specification to the construction site" on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 15:00.

Finally, Andreas Pörner, Managing Director of the Pörner Group, will give an overview of smart engineering of plant revamps in his presentation "Smart Engineering: How plant revamps increase productivity, efficiency and sustainability according to the principles of Anlagenbau 4.0” on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 12:00. With over 60 successful large-scale revamps, Pörner has wealth of experience in this area. Mr. Pörner will explain how relatively inexpensive plant revamps can increase production based on economic and ecological parameters and how even small changes can have a big impact.

Visitors are cordially invited to talk to our Pörner and EDL employees at the joint stand of Pörner and EDL in hall 9.0, booth E13. Come and take a look at our two meter LEGO model of a Biturox® bitumen plant, built by Pörner employees in Kiev. Customers, friends and partners can take a break from the hustle and bustle of the fair and recharge their batteries in the cozy vineyard atmosphere of a Vienna Café Terrace.

You can find more detailed information about our ACHEMA lectures under our event dates!
