In spring 2008 two new plants to produce glycidic ether and bisphenol F, a base component for making epoxy resins, were handed over by EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH to its long-time client Leuna-Harze GmbH on schedule. The total investment value amounted to some EUR 22 million.

The scope of work performed by EDL covered basic engineering, detail engineering, procurement as well as construction supervision services. Detail engineering started in spring 2007, development and construction works began shortly afterwards, i. e. only 2 months later. Engineering, supply of equipment and erection of all units and buildings were executed within possibly record-breaking 12 months after the project started.

The process units were new closed, multi-storey buildings made of structural steel and reinforced concrete reinforced concrete. Process equipment such as agitators, columns, vessels, heat exchangers, vacuum machinery, pumps etc. were arranged within these buildings. Auxiliary systems and off-sites were integrated as addition or new buildings into the existing works structures and infrastructure.

By its proficiency, particularly due to an experienced and professionally acting project and construction management EDL demonstrated towards the client once again, that the high level of confidence shown by Leuna-Harze GmbH, Europe´s fourth largest producer of epoxy resins, is more than justified.
