From 1910 to today: Plant engineering with passion, technical expertise and vision.
Our History
Moving forward into the future
With its extensive process engineering expertise, the continuous advancement of proprietary sustainable technologies, the expansion of engineering capacity across all disciplines, and the knowledge and experience gained from several decades of planning and project work, EDL is excellently equipped for the future.
EDL expands its operations into North Rhine‑Westphalia
With the opening of the Rhine‑Ruhr office, EDL expands into North Rhine‑Westphalia — because short distances enable direct, streamlined engineering. The location is situated at the heart of one of Germany’s most important process‑industry clusters, ensuring close alignment with projects and customers.
Since 2008: Evolution into a technology-driven plant engineering company
EDL continuously advances its extensive process engineering expertise and proprietary technologies. Own pilot plants for SDA PLUS and for deoiling/dewaxing are constructed.
EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft becomes part of the Pörner Group
EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pörner Group, headquartered in Vienna. With the Pörner Group at its side, the company is restructured and strengthened to operate as an independent medium‑sized enterprise in the market.
Edeleanu-EDL GmbH Leipzig is renamed
As part of structural changes, the company is renamed EDL Anlagenbau Gesellschaft mbH. At that time, the focus of activities was on building up process engineering capabilities and project management.
Foundation of Edeleanu GmbH Leipzig
Edeleanu GmbH Leipzig is established as a subsidiary of Edeleanu GmbH Alzenau (part of the RWE Group), staffed with employees from the former Chemieanlagenbaukombinat Leipzig‑Grimma (CLG), which at the time was the leading plant engineering company in East Germany. This marks the continuation of the impressive tradition of Saxon plant engineering in Leipzig.
Acquisition by Deuutsche Erdöl AGÜbernahme durch die Deutsche Erdöl AG
Deutsche Erdöl AG acquires the company. It later operates under the name Deutsche Texaco AG and, from 1988 onward, as RWE‑DEA Aktiengesellschaft für Mineraloel und Chemie.
The beginning
In 1908, Dr. Lazăr Edeleanu developed a groundbreaking process (the Edeleanu process) for separating paraffins and aromatics by extraction with liquid sulfur dioxide. To commercialize this process, he founded Allgemeine Gesellschaft für Chemische Industrie mbH in 1910. The company was later renamed Edeleanu GmbH.
